SADAATH:
We all understand what the term “Sadaath” means, which is just a term for someone who is descendants of the Prophet Mohammed ﷺ through his daughter Sayyidatuna Bibi Fatima رضي الله عنها upon her marriage with Hazrath Ali Al Murtada رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ who was the youngest cousin of the Prophet of Islam.
The other descendants of Hazrath Ali رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ from his other wife’s are named as Alawi’s(Aulad-e-Ali). The Prophet of Islam’s tree goes far back to the prophet Ismail Alaihis Salam son of Prophet Ibrahim Alaihis Salam (Whose father was Hazrath Tarik (not Azar, he was Ibrahim’ uncle)
Importance of Nasab: The following Hadith is invoked:
‘Allah has given all the virtues to the sons of Hazrat Ismail Alaihis Salam and among their offspring, all virtues to the Quresh, from among the Quresh, all virtues to the Banu Hashim and from among the Banu Hashim, all virtues to me’ (Prophet Mohammed ﷺ) .
People now a days are confused about Sadaath and Syed. Although all syed can be referred to as Sadaath, not all syed are Sadaath. Sadaath is descended from the Prophet Mohammed ﷺ.
Hazrath Hasan ibn Ali رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ and Hazrath Husain ibn Ali رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ, who were the sons of the prophet’s daughter Sayyidatuna Fatima رضي الله عنها are named as Hasni and Hussaini (called as Sadaath or Aalay-Rasool). Daughters of Sadaath are given the titles Syeda. Children of a Syeda’s mother with non-Sadaath father cannot be attributed the title of Syeda.
Sadaath families rarely marry outside their community and emphasize marrying into Najeeb-ul-tarfain (of Sayyid descent from both the mother’s and father’s side) families.

Some titles of Sadaath family as given below:
- Sayed/Syed
Note: Whoever used to referred themselves as Qadri/Chishti/Bukhari/Shah/Tabqati/Nakshabandi/Soharwardi etc., are not related to Sadaath (Aalay Rasool), they are called as Khalifa’s of Sadaath or from the followers of four main Sufi orders. However all the above titles are not bind to Sadaath family accreditation.
Most of the Dargah/Shrine in India are under maintenance of Khalifa/Gadi Nasheen, among them misuse the people by keeping themselves the surname ‘Syed’ which is against the identity of nasab (genealogy).
However Prophet Mohammed ﷺ said “All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over an Ajami nor does an Ajami have any superiority over an Arab; also, a White has no superiority over a Black nor does a Black have any superiority over a White, except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood”.
RELIGIOUS ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF SADAATH:
A few things, as detailed below, can help you identify Sadaath:
- Immense knowledge in Islamic Studies
- Patience Peaceful & Lovable
- Be kind, beautiful, and upright.
- Well-behaved
- Not very rich nor very poor
Islam teaches us to avoid pride or arrogance, in such a way a pious sadaath always known from his good behavior and correct adherence to the teachings of Islam. As we know Islam came to clear off divisions based on race & color etc., only adherence to the religious is what counts, Also Islam teach us to avoid pride or arrogance.
“O mankind, indeed, we have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.”
Quran (49:13)
In continuous to the above Sadaath family, I would like to brief on Dargah’s and its care taker (Sajjada Nahseen) and what are the precaution /rules to be observed at the shrines. At present these topics are most useful to show the importance play of Sadaath family to make educate the Muslim Society in the way of Sunnah following Tabayeen Tabe’ Tabayeen and Wali Allah.
Dargah/Shrine:
Dargah is derived from a persian word, is a composite of “dar meaning door, and “gah meaning place. The Dargah is the final resting place of Sufi Saint, where the persons can take the blessing of holy deceased saints and paying their respects to pious individuals or to pray at the sites for perceived spiritual benefits.
In south Asia Dargah’s have historically been place for all faiths since the medieval time, where most of Muslims and Hindus pay their respect.
Sadaath Properties & Wakf Board (please refer to the page Sadaath properties…..)

A shrine is a sacred or holy place dedicated to a specific deity, Saint, or similar figure of respect, those who were erected in honor as the special representatives of Allah and were thought to be vehicles for his miraculous power.
Dargah is a shrine or tomb built over the grave of a revered religious person often called a Sufi Saint or dervish
In India, the majority of shrines were built by the followers of the Prophet Mohammed ﷺ after their leader passed away. These were mostly devout, Sufi saints and scholars. If the person in charge of the shrine is a member of his family, they will be referred to as Sajjada Nasheen; if not, they will be known as Khalifa.
Precautions to be taken at Darga:
Dargah is originally a core concept in Islamic Sufism and hold great importance for the followers of Sufi saints.
Mostly Dargah are built on the grave of pious Sadaath (known to be Wali Allah), who are the descendent to the Prophet family and some of Dargah built on the grave of Khalifa’s or followers of Sufi Orders.
We would like to inform that some of usual precautions to be taken and observed, as most of the Dargah are now unmaintained.
Existence of Dargah come for Wali Allah ( All Islamic Scholar are not Wali Allah, but all Wali Allah are Islamic Scholar)
Religious succession (khilafat) is not the certificate of Wali Allah, it is just certificate for School of thought.
No Wali Allah practice or prefer un-Islamic ideas to enter in Shariya such as Band/Music/DJ/Drums etc., all these perform for self benefits at Dargah for the popularity.

One Darga One Wali Allah (A place where Wali Allah present, the other will not be stayed at the same place, if so, no Urs will be conduct except the highest Wali Allah), which is overruled by current Sajjada Nasheens.
It is improper to do multiple Urs at one location since this diminishes the significance of the highest Wali Allah; nevertheless, Fatiha and Anniversary (Barsi) can be performed at each location where his devotees are buried.
Without a certified Islamic education, a person can only act the part of Wali Allah; he cannot actually become one.

A genuine spiritual leader who is descended from the Prophet Mohammed ﷺ. is accustomed to dressing differently, preferring white garments (No Wali Allah in the complete history differentiate themselves wearing colorful attires/caps such as green, Yellow, Saffron etc.,).
Sajjada Nasheen
Sajjada Nasheen is Holy spiritual Man and having responsibilities to follow the rituals, practice and customs of the deceased priest resting in the Holy Grave. The Sajjada Nasheen come from the heirs of the priest resting in the Holy grave or his close relating Khalifa (Spiritual Succession). It has observed that number of services to render by the different names and dignities at Dargah, namely Mujavar, Khadim etc.,
The following things to be observed at Holy Shrine by Sajjada Nasheen:

Sajjada Nasheen/Khalifa have a responsibility to follow the Shariya of Prophet Mohammed ﷺ. in the shrine of Wali Allah and refrain from disturbing the shrine with music, DJ sound systems, unethical behaviour, or the admittance of women, with the exception of Fuqra Spiritual Kalaam on Duff. Whoever rebels against such a system would undoubtedly suffer the repercussions in the Hereafter (Aaqirah).

During spiritual preaching to disciples, class shall be distinguished rather than attire.

The purpose of the shrine—rather than its creation being to generate cash or gain notoriety—was for us to get the blessing of such a magnificent Wali Allah. The teaching of that wali Allah must be communicated in a way that is effective if actual popularity is to be attained.
If a Sajjada Nasheen/Khalifa received the blessing of the Wali Allah and was granted Wilayat, he would relocate his residence and establish his own shrine in a location far from the one where his religious preacher currently maintains a shrine.
Strength & Weakness:
Sufism offers a light in gruesome times. If you are facing difficulty and feel hopeless, you can turn to Sufism to find a way out of the misery. The principles behind Sufism teach you to escape from this world of deceit and malice.
As of today some of the followers of Sufism, mostly the Sajjada Nasheen/Gadi Nasheen/Khalifa etc., are running behind the political for their gains and benefits of this world, truly they are unaware of this temporary benefits of the world.
These issues are facing by all the Dargah of each states due to many disputes arising with less knowledge on the spirituality and its succession by waqf official and its misguided officials. However the genuine persons always abide such things.
